Life is kind of funny when you get down to it.
In about 5 short (very short, it seems) years, I have gone from doing graphic design and art as a hobby and for whimsical reasons to achieving some moderate commercial success. I’ve always been creative, but it’s been kind of a whirlwind-of-no-focus sort of creativity. I’ve dabbled and mastered a multitude of mediums, but with no true focus, my interests seemed to be all over the place.
It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve gained a foothold into what makes me tick creatively and have been able to narrow-in on an output medium (or rather a hand-full of output mediums) that I really enjoy and get a lot of satisfaction out of, not to mention having gained a following and client base to support it.
I guess you could say I’ve finally come into my own and am finding a path of success.
The same can definitely be said of horror-thriller author, Paul E. Cooley.
He’s been slowly building momentum in the last few year, around the same basic timeframe. Similarly, he’s been playing in his creative writing realm for years and has, in the last 5 years, focused in on his unique style and .
With the releases of Tattoo, Closet Treats, and his Fiends: Volume 1 collection, he explored the boundaries of psychological horror and gained a modest following of fans.
With the release of The Street, his dystopian Sesame Street parody, he explored the dirty recesses of our childhood and modern fears of drug abuse and the downtrodden.
Finally, this year saw the release of The Black, his first foray into the mainstream under Severed Press, and the burgeoning growth of his popularity and writing acumen.
Now, with his writing career taking off under Severed Press, Paul is also continuing on as a hybrid author, meaning that we will be continuing to self publish while releasing stories with his publisher.
Along the route of his self-publishing path, Paul and I are working to release his Garaaga’s series of stories under a consolidated brand and with a quality that will beat, hands-down, any other self-published author and a good many small presses to boot.
The first book being released under this new branding and self-publishing efforts is Legends of Garaaga, a collection of 4 ancient tales of the rise and insipid influence of the Dark God, Garaaga, a being of ultimate evil who uses subterfuge and lascivious seductive tactics to play the puppet master behind the shadows of the earliest human civilizations.

Read on below for the synopsis:
An ancient horror emerges in the tales of our past…
Before the written word, a lone warrior hunts an ancient evil. Thousands of years later, a young man travels from the forests of the Indus Valley to the mighty kingdom of Akkad to keep a legend alive. Alexander the Great’s scouts fight for their lives when they discover a creature as deadly as it is beautiful. And at the Library of Alexandria, a scribe discovers the truth—the god Garaaga and its children are real. Legends of Garaaga chronicles the origin of a legend and its passage from the stone age to the peak of the Roman Empire. Legends is a dark, brooding collection of stories that pits humanity against a dark god’s progeny.
Legends of Garaaga marks the beginning of the Garaaga series, kicking off a multi-year release schedule taking the tales of the Dark God from ancient times, through recent history, to the current modern age.
Legends of Garaaga will be released November 22, 2014, through Amazon (print and ebook) and via audio book (through shadowpublications.com).
If you know what’s good for you, you’ll pick up a copy. Remember: the Dark God is watching…
